(17) She Teaches The How’s and Why’s Of Recycling in Uruguay

Katherine is an inspiring teacher in Uruguay.  She shared this story with us about her experiences in the classroom:

I’m a teacher and coordinator and we work on earth day every year. Last year we invited a grandma to teach us HOW plastic caps are recycled into trash bags. It was great seeing all the process through pictures and the children got to handle the material (different types of plastic as it goes through the precess). There was a lot of enthusiasm in the air, since they got a clear idea why and for what they were collecting bottle caps. Later on they made a “recycled” collage with the material, simply loved it!
It was by far the year we got most plastic caps to recycle! Kilos and Kilos!
A part from recycling and being a earth friendly activity it had a double purpose. These bottle caps are the basic material needed for a small catholic factory for people who  otherwise had no jobs.
Just liked to share this!
